A Family Picture

We had originally planned to get a professional family photo by our friend Catherine. But when we awoke Friday morning, Isaac had a common cold. We didn't want to pass Isaac's cold onto Catherine's children so we had to postpone. But Adam and I had already got dressed for the occasion. So... we tried to have my little sis take a few quick snap shots. Here are the results of our family photo session (with a dog and a sick baby). I don't why I thought this would work…ENJOY!

Appetizers With The Breed's

I know this is short notice but my mom is going to make of bunch of appetizers tomorrow night. Adam and I thought we would get some beer and wine and then play some bored games/poker/cards/pool. Since we have baby Isaac it is difficult to go out and see all of our friends so we would love if you stop by. Please feel free to come any time after 5pm. Give me a call if you need the address. (For those that have kids... please feel free to bring them along.) We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.

It's Recommended You Visit Twice A Year For A Reason

Adam and I both visited the dentist this week. Needless to say, neither of us had been to the dentist in a few years and we now know why that it's recommended that you visit twice a year. At only 26, Adam is showing signs of gingivitis and has to go twice more to get extensive cleanings done. Following the cleanings, he has to have his wisdom teeth removed along with his rotting baby tooth. YIKES!!! So as a public service announcement... please see the dentist more than once every seven years!

The First Month Montage

We got this wonderful idea from our friends Ryan and Kristy…each month we will post his stats, what Isaac is begging to do, his likes/dislikes, etc., along with a selection of our favorite pictures from the month. We hope you enjoy!

Stats:
Age: 1 month
Weight: 11 lbs 13 oz...95th percentile
Length: 25 1/2 inches...95th percentile
Head Circumference: 15 1/2 inches...75th percentile
Health Report: Overall, Isaac is in good health. Obviously, he does not have an underweight problem. Dr. Huger is a little concerned about his left hip, so Isaac will have an ultrasound on Jan 3rd.

Isaac is beginning too…follow objects with his eyes, lift his head when on tummy to look at mom/dad and smirk/smile.

Isaac has mastered…spitting up after meals and burping.

Isaac loves…his crib, snuggling with mom/dad for naps, Oscar kisses, his Glider seat, his mobile, and surprisingly bath time.

Isaac currently dislikes…diaper changes.

Names we call him…sweetheart, fussy face, stinky bum, little man and snuggle bum.

Thank You and Addresses

Adam and I just wanted to say thank you to all those that sent emails, cards, gifts or called when Isaac was born. We are slowly returning each correspondence but we just wanted to let everyone know that we truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. Also, if you have moved since last Christmas, will you please email me your new contact information?

Who Store My Binky?

Contrary to my prior post we are having a slight issue with Oscar and Isaac. Oscar seems to think that Isaac’s things are also his. He thinks the Boppy is his own personal dog pillow. And his latest development is to steal Isaac’s pacifiers. He doesn’t chew them , he just steals them from Isaac when they aren’t in use. Luckily, we have lots of binky’s!!!

The Firsts

This past Tuesday the weather was beautiful so we took Isaac and Oscar for our first family walk, which they both loved... ok - Isaac slept through almost all of it - but he seemed to enjoy it. Oscar definitely loved the much needed time in the fresh air. (For those of you who know Oscar and how much energy he has… don’t worry … he has been amazing with Isaac.)
Isaac also had his first bath. He didn’t seem to like it as much as his mother and father did. But overall, he did really well.
Last Thursday, we had Isaac’s two week doctor visit and after much agony with his previous weight loss, Isaac is finally back up to his birth weight. I was truly upset when our doctor had us supplement feed with formula, but it has truthfully been better for Isaac. I had been starving him, and now he is finally getting the much needed food he had been working so hard for. The supplemental feedings have actually worked out in my favor, because now AB can perform one of the overnight feedings. This now allows me to get a few extra minutes of shut eye. Yeah!!! Overall, the doctor’s appointment went well… no signs of jaundice and he is growing at a rapid pace…9 lbs 6 oz, 22 ¾ inches, and 14 ¼ inches for head circumference. He is going to be a BIG BOY!

What day is today? What's that smell? Have we eaten?

Isaac is now two weeks old. He is absolutely perfect and we just couldn't be any happier with our new little man – we are truly blessed to have such a healthy and happy little boy. There is one slight problem though… we don’t seem to get anything done. All AB and I want to do is snuggle and play with the little guy. We often don’t know what day it is or we can’t remember if we showered and/or ate. I am not sure how parents with multiple children do it. Our friend Catherine is definitely SUPERMOM!

The First Few Days... Returning to Normal

The first few days home we were blessed to have family come visit. Grandpa West Aunty Meg, Grandpa Roger and Grandma Judy all made the trip to St. Louis to visit their new grandson/nephew. We were also blessed to have Grandma West here for an entire week to take care of Adam and me. She cooked, cleaned, did the laundry, and occasionally changed a diaper or two. It was fantastic! But now that the family has come and gone, Adam and I are trying to return to our normal lives. What “normal” is now is much different than it was nine months ago. There are two things that have finally returned to pre-pregnancy life, ankle bones and the disappearance of heartburn. Those who did see me during my pregnancy were witnesses to the club feet. For almost nine months, I wasn’t sure that there were any ankles inside the water filled balloons that I was walking on. I also had severe heartburn, but the minute Isaac arrived in this world, the heartburn disappeared. Halleluiah!! Besides these two things, life is much different now than it was. But we are learning each day what our new “normal” lives will be. Isaac loves to keep us guessing, whether it be another poop explosion or just snuggling with mom, he is definitely teaching us what the new definition of “normal” is.

Diaper Duty…Holy Fountains and the Great Oil Spill of 2007!!!

Well…we have been home for a few days now and it has definitely been interesting. Diaper duty has been the most startling of them all. Adam and I attended an “Infant Care” class where we were informed that a baby’s first diaper is usually made up of a black tarry substance. But what Adam and I were not aware of is that we were going to have the Great Oil Spill of 2007. Isaac did such a number that Adam had to throw away two of the hospital’s receiving blankets.
Then, due to the circumcision, diaper duty is currently a two man job. You would think that two grown adults should be able to change a diaper. Well… we can change diapers…we just get baptized in the process. Not only has Sara been christened by the Holy Fountain once… but twice.
Isaac is also currently the Pro at filling his diaper immediately after you change his diaper. Ten diapers a day...not in our world.

Couples Baby Shower

In late August, our wonderful friends Bobby and Kari threw us a couple’s baby shower. It was absolutely wonderful. It was a beautiful day, so we were all able to enjoy boating and relaxing by the lake. Kari did a fantastic job of planning our shower. Instead of making the women play baby games, she had the men participate. I am not sure that the men were all to thrilled about this situation, but all of them were great sports and participated anyway. The men could probably now tell you that it is very difficult to drink beer from a baby bottle or “speed-change” a diaper. We were able to enjoy the beautiful afternoon in the company of some of our best friends.

And It Starts...

We have finally decided to join the world of technology and start a blog. With the new little guy on his way, we figured this would be the best way to keep friends and family informed about our lives with out sending incessant emails with pictures and updates. This way, should you want to know what the Breed's are up to you can read all about. We hope you enjoy!!
